Baraja: "We want to dedicate the victory to the victims and those affected by the 'DANA'"
The coach previews the game against Real Betis
Claudio López will return to La Cartuja in April, 23 years after his amazing performance there in the Copa del Rey. A special guest for Valencia CF for this year's Copa del Rey final in Seville, the Argentine spoke to VCF Media about the invitation to attend and commentate the game.
Returning to La Cartuja
It is an honour to be able to accompany the Valencianistas again, and get together again in a place where we had a very happy time. It will bring back beautiful memories and I hope that we will update them with this final that is coming up. We are thankful to be able to experience a final again, even if it is from another section of the stadium. There is still the same excitement as 23 years ago. I hope history repeats itself. It would bring me immense joy.
Memories of a magical night
I remember the moment that we entered the stadium and saw all of the Valencianistas waiting for the start of the match. I remember moments from the game and, above all, I remember the end, the joy that we experienced because of what we achieved after a lot of struggle. I still get goosebumps remembering that game. There is part of that squad that were my friends as well as my teammates. It was a sensational year.
His love for Valencia CF
What has always tied me to the club, and will mean that I have an eternal love for Valencia CF, is the affection of the Valencianistas. What we enjoyed those years, and what we gave each other, is going to stay with us forever.
Commentating on the final
We are going to give it everything that we can. Hopefully it will be the initial kickstart for us to be able to relive incomparable moments with the Valencianistas.
His second goal in 1999
At that moment, the only thing you think about is making sure that the goalkeeper does not catch you and that there is an open goal. The moment the ball hits the net, other emotions come to you that are difficult to explain. A lot of things go through your head in a few seconds, in an explosion of emotion.
Forever grateful
It was incredible. What we experienced that night and the days after, returning to Valencia, on the bus ride, at the Ayuntamiento town hall, at the stadium... These are indelible memories that have a place in my heart. I am very grateful to have experienced it.
